How to connet and control my arduino+wifi to internet ?.

Hi,

We are developing home automation products using Arduino. Now We need to control the arduino through internet. So we add a wifi module with my arduino.

What is the first step ?. Where I from start ?. I read something from internet ( I know only basics of networking).

Now I need to connect with my arduino+atwinc1500 to the internet and control any where in the world.

An ESP8266 based board (like the Wemos D1) could replace the Arduino.
