How to control motors (bi-directional) with higher ratings than L293D

Hi,

Please can someone tell me how to drive a motor, in both directions, that has higher ratings than a L293D is capable of?

For example, what about a 7.2V motor that pulls around 10-12Amps?

I want to play with powerful motors from R/C equipment but I want to know how to start before buying parts :smiley:

EDIT: to clarify...what I think I'm trying to ask is how to drive and control electronics that have much higher power requirements than the rest of the circuit (the Arduino).

Many suppliers offer high current motor controllers. Have a look at Pololu's website for example. Another option is to use an Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) which is controlled like a servo. Have a look at HobbyKing's website.
