how to drive an 32 segment lcd directly

Hi

i have a number of fht 80b wall thermostats and they have an custom lcd with 32 segements

since there is so much wireless arround where i live (1 out of 179 flats) i can only use 3 of them, the 5 others cant keep connection to the valvehead at the rad

so i thought of using an ESP8266 or something and make a custom pcb that fits inside the case

but i'm in doubt on what lcd driver chip to select, PCF8562TT/2,118 from nxp is in my mind as its the cheapest on mouser that can drive 32 segments

but i also dont want to have to write a lib from scratch

so are there other chips i could consider that can drive 32 segments and that has lib's written allready?

reason i ask is that there are only examples for 7 segments lcd's and that is not what i have

another set of these wall thermostat and valvehead bit the dust this morning and woke me up early due to loss of contact between units

that is my biggest motivation to design a replacement pcb for each unit

one could argue why not just replace the board in the valvehead since that has a 2 digit 7 segement lcd + battery and ant symbol

well ditching the wall unit means that you dont have the convenience of quick setting of temp and schedule

its for sure something i will let my brain simmer on
