How to embed vim as an editor in 1.8.x ?

Years ago, I was happy-as after getting vim running instead of the default editor inside arduino.
I forgot how I did that, and lost my old pc...
Anyone remember or know how to do that?

Note that I don't want to use any external editor or whatever other silly settings exist for that - I want arduino to work normally, using vim as the editor - like I used to do.

Also - unrelated - why's there no "1.x" software forum? Only the 2.* bugridden IDE has an entry in the forum? I keep reporting stuff that's broken in that, but it never gets fixed... so 1.8.* seems the safest to keep using so far...

You mean like the one that I have moved your topic to ?

@UKHeliBob

If there is a Software → IDE 2.x, it would be reasonable to expect that there would be a Software → IDE 1.x.

And if there is a Using Arduino → IDE 1.x it's equally reasonable to expect that there would be a Using Arduino → IDE 2.x.

:smiley:

Either would be a perfectly reasonable expectation

Found what I think was it: GitHub - stevearc/vim-arduino: Vim plugin for compiling and uploading arduino sketches
