How to extract a sketch from Arduino Pro Mini and copy to another Pro Mini?

Hi Everyone this is my first post!

I have a Arduino Pro Mini and need to get the loaded sketch copied to multiple Pro Mini's?

The original sketch I can't obtain from the original maker of the project as it was a purchased item (NO LONGER SOLD).

I can load sketches with my FTDI breakout board, and tried to download the hex file back onto the computer using avrdude using a command prompt, but get a sync error?

So any help much appreciated, as I'm new to this the word simple comes to mind for any solutions?

Thanks Andy.

You can use a ISP to read the flash memory. A FTDI will not work.

Really? You should be able to read out the sketch over FTDI serial, if it's got a bootloader... I mean, avrdude does that every time you upload to verify that it uploaded successfully....

An ISP will of course also work, and can get you the fuses and eeprom too.

The avrdude scripts you need (Windows) czn be found here:
