How to get old forum layout?

I've been away from arduino for a while. Log in and find the whole forum has been redesigned. I really dislike it. It has been redesigned for mobile users without consideration for pc users.

Is there any way i can revert my forums to the old layout style? I can't navigate around the site properly now.

If there isn't a way to revert to the old style i request that the mods consider mentioning it to be an option.
After all it is only formatting, Right??? (I hope you didn't pay to rebuild the site and have it look like this i'd consider hiring a real web designed instead of someone using wixx)

but seriously if there isn't a way to revert to the old style i request that the mods consider mentioning it to be an option because any older users you may have had are going to take one look a this new style and turn around. People don't like change. Especially when change means having to relearn lots of small non critical things.

One last note. WTH is with this catergory selection 0_0.
KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid (Literally arduinos motto. Did you forget?)

Regards,
Confused and sad.

There is no way back. Although i would have preferred an improved version of the old one, this one isn't bad, it has some nice functionalities yhat were lacking in the old one. And it's stable.

I'm trying to learn it now but the mobile formatting for vertical screens makes it very distracting.

Just to be clear i'm not outright throwing hate i think its reasonable to consider big changes like this will upset people. I think what i miss most is text formatting options inside. IE strikethrough

Mabye if they added an option to change screen width? I hate having half my screen space actually used...

On a mobile you don't have a preview window; at least, i haven't found it yet on Sndroid.

There is a very long thread in this section, something called like "new forum, and it is great"

Makes and interesting read about feelings and problems regarding the new forum.

Well i found out why the formatting is messed up. These settings calculations are way off for a desktop device...
I've spoken with many arduino employees who are great coders and its sad that none of them have turned to thier boss and said
"Hey can i spend 20mins adjusting this so that it doesn't give our users a degenerative disease?"

These are the same people who taught me about multiplexing and other madness that i still find incomprehensible. They are incredibly capable and the fact they are not allowed to setup thier own website is a true crime.

It takes a bit of time to get used to it and to stop barking at the lost real estate but it does have good features and it works.

I think you mean: Do you like the new forum?

@pathogenex,
While I agree there are certainly things that could be imprioved in the new version it is, in my opinion, a big improvement once you get used to it. One thing you don't see is that behind the scenes if there is a problem* with it then the problem gets reported to Discourse (who provide the forum software) and they fix it. The old forum software was unsupported and getting problems fixed was, well, a problem.

Discourse is way more stable and gives minimal, err, problems (do I keep typing the word 'problem'?)

So, no, it's not perfect, it's not the way everyone wants it but it is a big improvement.

*By problem I mean if something goes wrong with it, it gets fixed.

No it is a lot worse on a mobile than it is on a laptop. It seems there is little design to it.

It has features by the bucket full but all us big users have lost the post counts and the Kama points have not carried on accumulating but have started from zero again with a "Badge" for points every now and then. There is no way to add these new "Badge" points to the carried over points.
This was admitted by one of the "designers" as a feature to drive away old frequent posters.

A lot depends on your definition of "wrong", they don't seem to want to relabel any of the confusing "new" categories.

I thought I was clear: It stops behaving as designed.

That's not something going 'wrong' with the forum, that's about the way it's been implemented in this case, which I agree, getting it changed is proving to be somewhere between impossibly difficult and just impossible.

We don’t participate here for that, isn’t it?
Your karma is set in stone and no one can get these labels anymore, so you are one of the two members with 2500 karma badge and no one can join your 2500+ elite club anymore !

And your stats are visible

@Grumpy_Mike
You get 'badges' (like when you were a good boy at school... (oh, were a naughty boy at school!))

Have the moderators tried to talk to e.g. pert?

I know there have been a few topics about it but they all die because it's just thoughts. I liked the suggestion for the *Installation and Troubleshooting" category that @PerryBebbington made; can't find the topic back.

So I think that maybe a few moderators / regulars must actually 'sit' together and come up with names for the sections. Once there is a list, it can be suggested to the powers that are (maybe after a poll).

I mean arduino teaches people from the start that changing the name of a variable is the easiest thing in the world. Or in this case changing the name in a list.txt file...

Has arduino been bought out? Or changed owners? Or done a mass firing?
It sounds like these are completely different people from the kind knowledgeable and community sharing spirited people who started this endevour.

Did Apple buy out arduino?

I don't believe so!

ROFLAMO!!!

That would have helped on UX and UI and be a good thing and they would not be fearing a complete earth shaking category reset by moving every existing category under an englobing old stuff and start fresh, new properly architected and meaningful categories, (and moderators could move meaningful conversations into the new relevant categories)

To the question, I have read ARM might have some stake in some way but it’s unclear with speculations flying.

My suggestion for renaming Installation and Troubleshooting would be:-

Getting the IDE working.
