How to hire someone to build an Arduino project?

Hello,

I have been lurking around the forums for a while now, and I absolutely love some of the electronics projects, especially the ones that incorporate social media and real-world actions in office environments, like the Merry Twitter Tree or the Snow Cannon.

I work at a marketing agency with some large corporate clients and I am sure they would love projects like this too. Is anyone out there building these things professionally? Or do any hobbyists sell their services?

I have no specific project in mind, but please get in touch if you have an idea that needs some budget and would like a corporate sponsor to make it happen.

Or, get in touch if you would build set-ups like the Twitter Christmas tree professionally, I'd love to chat about budgets and ideas.

It would be great to collaborate, and pitch in a project to a client.

Cheers,

Don

I'm sure there are many people who'd be willing to get a bit more cash.

If you have any idea of what kind of thing you might be wanting them people will have a much better idea as to whether they might be able to help.

Also, you should be aware that for network access, the Arduino isn't the best platform. There are better solutions out there, which offer better network connectivity at only moderate extra costs. You'd better consider those too, before investing too much effort in implementing those thing with an Arduino.

Thanks Mowcius and Korman,

Mowcuis, not too sure just yet. An idea that'd be easy to sell to a client would be one that involves Twitter creating some sort of physical reaction in the office which is shared by a webcam on a micro-site. I have a huge variety of clients I could sell an idea to, so I'm going to go away and have a good think as to what ideas would work to promote them.

Korman, cheers for the tip. I'll look into other options too. Although, I think this community would be hard to beat elsewhere!

Don

Cool.

Probably true!

Well perhaps you need to show some stuff you have already done first.

Might also help if you give an indication of your / your clients location(s). Or whether this even matters. Considering the international nature of this forum, you'd probably get more attention if we know its not limited to the US, china, australia, india or whatever other country or continent, or whether it is, since then the people from said area would be more inclined to get in contact (its no trouble to ignore a offer, but it is trouble to find out whether it applies to oneself  ).

Well based on the name, I presume he's in London and obviously for some projects that could be an issue. Perhaps he has clients in other countries though.

Just keep in mind that most here are hobbyists and quite a large number are students. That's not to say that you can't collaborate, but you should keep in mind that you'll be working with someone that may not be used to budgets and timelines and deliverables to clients. You may need to carry more of that side of the equation for someone that's prototyping for you. Just be careful, in that an amateur with the best of intents may very well underestimate costs and timelines.. and you'd want to be sure to discuss it thoroughly to make sure you're not swinging in the breeze when it comes time to deliver the product. That all being said, there's a lot of professionals here also, with extensive project-management experience.. but they probably wouldn't come cheap.

Our little Arduinos are great for what you're proposing in most cases, and most here could even steer you to a more suitable solution if Arduino isn't the answer for a particular problem, and could very well deliver what you want for a lot less effort and cost than other solutions.. just take care in what you promise to a customer if the engineering end is not necessarily up to a pro level.

Many here are always looking for a bit of pocket change, anytime (including me!)

Yes, we could team up focalist!

well i wanted to but i Thought people wouldnt like to see the same ping based thingy again and again an ofcourse line follower i though t ill put up somwthing innovative  and that day is coming ....... ::slight_smile:

Well on a slightly different note, community driven projects are pretty cool. Perhaps we should have one every so often.

CrossRoads.. absolutely. Been up to my neck in issues over the past weeks, but once the holidays pass, Arduino will get a little more actual time- Substantially more actually, as my son is getting an Arduino for Christmas. Father-Son bonding in a haze of rosin fumes and curses of "where the heck is that semicolon?".. hehe

Been thinking past your scoreboard project (sorry not been more of a help.. ) about your fencing crew and high-speed photography.

At the moment, I've got a couple hours of kids-on-santa's-lap work, wheee...
