How to input energy into a breadboard to USB B adapter

Hello,

I recently purchases a USB B female breadboard adapter and do not know how to input energy into it. How do I wire and code it so that I can connect to a separate device to turn on and off. Thank you.

Pin 1 connects to +5 volts.
Pin 4 connects to GND, 0 volts.

By convention, you only feed 5V into it via the USB plug.
You shouldn't be using this as a 5V outlet.
