How to power 12V LED Strip with a Yun?

Hey,

I'm trying to power an LED strip with a Yun. I know the Yun can only take in 5V and the LED strip recommends 12V.
Can anyone think of a way to power both the Yun and LED Strip properly?

Use the Yun 5V output to switch a transistor (or MOSFET) that would control, if you will, the 12V power to the "LED strip".

Hi,

I've a Similar question.

I'm trying to use a YUN board to power a 12V RGB Strip by using the 'RGB LED Strip' Driver shield.
(RGB_LED_Strip_Driver_Shield_SKU:DFR0274-DFRobot).

The Shield uses 12V for it's input voltage and has extended header pins, this results in the 12V Vin pin from the shield being connected to the Vin pin of the YUN board.

I assume this will form an issue and fry the board due to the lack of the voltage regulator on the YUN, not ?
Would removing the Vin header extension from the RGB Shield solve the issue?

Any insight and tips on this would be much appreciated.
Cheers

What LED strip?

Do you mean "power" or "control"?
