How to read this kind of potentiometer

Hey folks,

I wanted to hook up this kind of rudder feedback potentio meter

Problem is, it has only two connector's..
so i would need to measure the voltage in between.
i did, kind of, i put 5v on the device and the analog0 port on the gnd side of the device with the board's gnd.
now it reads the voltage probably on one side you'll read 1 ,the more you go to the other side it will rise 1-15 but after three quarters it does not simply rise it speeds up to 100 and makes it very unusable to code with.

does someone has a kind of solution to this problem?

oh and the device is supposed to run on 12v dc as well as the gauge which read's the rudder feedback

rudder position sensors have a very small active area... about 30 degrees each side.

Problem is, it has only two connector's..

That probably means it is just a variable resistor.

So you need to connect it between the analogue input and ground. Then wire a pull up resistor, again from the same analogue input, to 5V.
The value of this resistor should be half the resistance range you measure when you measure between the two connectors.

I would have thought that it can be read with just 5V if that is more convenient for your setup.
