How to recover files from a formatted SD card?

I have an SD card that was formatted by mistake. How can I recover data on this media? What are my chances?

Some good chances if that was only a format, not a wipe clean

I would not use an Arduino though, look for "SD Card Recovery Software" or just "Data Recovery" on your computer

Google says that there are many paid programs, but I doubt their effectiveness.

Try some free ones, download from reputable sources...

Some will let you view the content and recover one / a few files before you need to pay

This is what I plan to do. At the moment I am considering several programs, these are Uneraser and Rekuva. I just wanted to know about the personal experiences of users on the forum. Maybe someone was in a similar situation.

I have succesfully used PhotoRec in the past.

Thanks for the advice, but there were more than just photos on my SD card.
