How to run a 12V motor with Arduino Uno?

Hey guys,

hope you can help me. I connected a 12v drive motor to my arduino uno with a h-bridge in between.
Now, my problem is, that the drive motor is supplied with only 5v from the arduino.

Question: What do I have to do to increase on 12v? See my circuit below.
Would be great if you could help me – I'm a beginner.

Ps. Here you can see my drawing-machine-project I am working on: http://murioclaim.de/download/IMG_0606.MOV

See my circuit:

You provide the 12v via the h-bridge. The h-bridge controls the power to the motor. Look in the datasheet for you h-bridge.

As far as I can see, it should be possible to disconnect the Vin (5volt) wire from arduino and replace the unused 9-volt battery, with a 12 volt dc power supply.
Thew l293 uses 2 positive voltages, one of 5 volt max on pin 16 (of the chip) to power its internal logic and pin 8 is used for the power needed to run your motor. You'll need to disconnect the wire to Vin, to avoid blowing up your arduino board.

Thank you two for your answers! I think, they will help me

Great!
