HOW TO SET ARDUINO SLEEP MODE?

Hi, I've one Xbee connected to Arduino Duemilanove and another Xbee connected serially to PC. Temperautre reading will be sent from remote Xbee to the coordinator Xbee for every 5 seconds.

So how to set the sleep mode of Arduino to save power when there is no data sent towards the PC? Do I need also setting the sleep mode of remote Xbee? Is there any bad effect if both the sleep modes of Arduino and Xbee are set simultaneously?
