How to transmit words from a RF transmitter and catch them with the Receiver?

I'm trying to transmit a word from the Rf Transmitter and Receiver. I successfully transmitted a one letter through. Then tried to transmit a word.

char input = "hello";
    send(&input);

.
It says warning: invalid conversion from 'const char*' to 'char' [-fpermissive]

char input = "gg";
I used virtual-Wire Library.
Mainly i need to send a number not a word. Is there a way to do it without sending a word?

send(&input);

This is not a valid call to the VirtualWire library.

The standard call to send a character string is the following:

   vw_send((uint8_t *)msg, strlen(msg));

However, you can send anything you like as long as you cast it correctly. To send a 2 byte integer, use:

   int x=1210;
    vw_send((uint8_t *)&x, 2);

Of course you will need to modify the receive code to expect an integer.

What can you store in a char?
What can you store in a char ARRAY?

What are you trying to store?
What do you need to use to store that data?
