how to use a liquid crystal display (qy-10602a)

Hey guys i brought a starter kit off ebay but i cant figure out how to use the display the kit is http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120642626876#ht_2762wt_1139

What can't you figure out? On the link you provided, there is a picture of how to connect is (picture #4). It uses the LiquidCrystal library (at least the e-bay add says that it does) and the wiring diagrams seems to support that contention), so, if you get the pin connections right, any of the L/C examples should make something happen.

i tried wiring it up to that diagram but it still dont work i know the arduino works as i have made this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnNrxLg9280

Post a photo so we can check your connections.

...but it still dont work

Can you be a bit more specific?

Why don't you just follow the tutorial at http://www.ladyada.net/learn/lcd/charlcd.html?

Don

is this ok i looked on the other site and they change the pins on both arduino and code. is there a reason why?

is this ok

This is what you should see before you connect the LCD module to the Arduino and run your sketch. You will see a similar picture about halfway through the tutorial (except their LCD is upside down at that point).

The Arduino pins that are used are completely arbitrary. Any pin can be used for any of the signals. All you have to do is make sure that the list in lcd.begin() matches the actual connections. Don’t forget about LCD pin 5.

Neither photo is suitable for checking the connections. We have to be able to unambiguously follow the wires from the LCD to the Arduino.

Found that a pin on the lcd was not sordered correctly so redone and all working :)
