How to Use XC4499 (LED Matrix)

Hello, I am an experienced C++ programmer but am only just beginning on embedded/Arduino work and am in need of a little guidance.

I have an XC4499 unit:

Available from several places in Australia, such as here and is described here as being

Possibly the worst documented product I have ever come across.

but never the less seems to be relatively popular.

I however am having trouble working out how I should use it.

I understand it uses the SPI (Shift-Register) interface and have watched Jeremy Blum's excellent tutorial video on the subject but I am unable to find a "data sheet" describing this product. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction for this?

Thanks,
Slarti.

Hi Slarti (bartfarst?)

Ignore the "XC4499" model number. That video tutorial is not relevant either. The important thing is that your module uses a max7219 chip. Use that as your search term. You will get lots of tutorials and examples.

Arr, wonderful.

Thank you, I think I'm on the right track now.
