Hunting Thread :Trigger Warning for PETA types

Caught big boy slippin this morning.

Last day before gun season
33 yards
Hoyt PowerMax 65lbs
Easton Full Metal Jacket arrow
Grim Reaper expandable broadhead (which failed to expand)

Congrats!  It's hard to see in the photo, is there a brow point on the right side?

How far did he go?

Yeah, congrats on taking a fine looking buck. Fond memories of my younger days.

There is. He's an 8 point. No award winner, but one of the nicer bucks we've got around here in a while.

About thirty or forty yards.

I'm pretty sure this is his son. It looks like it. I know the momma for sure. This one is a year and a half old. He's an absolute unit for a deer his age. In a few years he's going to be a beast. He hung around one of my stands a bunch last year when he was little. He was a bruiser when he was a fawn.

The big one standing up tall is his momma. She's on the list for this year too. She's getting old and something is wrong with her stomachs and she's all swole out in the middle like a horse. I forget what it is called but it happens to goats too. It's caused by their diet. Too many people out here feeding corn. It's not good for them.

Does the condition affect the meat?  It looks, too like her coat isn't smooth and sleek anymore.

Not if it's what I think it is. It just causes them to be malnourished. Hence the coat. IME if I don't take her this year she'll be in pretty rough shape by next fall. I don't think she can breed again.

She's been prolific though. That big yearling has a twin sister and she had twins the year before that too.

Better then to take her now rather than let her suffer.
