I would recommend that you get an Arduino starter kit and do some examples. Your best place to get one depends on your location but most eBay suppliers ship to most places.

That's good! Have you done any programming? If not, that's OK. The [u]Arduino language Library[/u] isn't too complicated, and the Arduino is a fairly easy way to learn programming.
