I cannot seem to get these servos to work. Can you help me?

I am trying to control two servos with a button and two 8 by 8 led matrixes. I am able to control them both separately but as soon as I attach both to my Arduino and send the code the servos do not respond to the button. The Led Matrixes still work and display my text.
Thank you

Post a complete wiring diagram (not Fritzing, hand drawn is better).

A very common mistake is to try to power servos from the 5V Arduino output. Don't.

Servos and motors require independent power supplies -- a 4xAA battery pack will power a small servo. For more, use a power supply capable of 5 to 6V at 1 Ampere per servo.

Don't forget to connect the grounds (negative power supply leads).

I have tried to connect the two servos to a separate 9 volt battery. Is that too much power to them?

It depends on the size of the servos. Try looking up what their voltage is. Do the servos work when the matrix is off? By the way, what are you trying to make? it sounds ridiculously fun/complicated.

Tman192:

More likely not enough.

I have tried to connect the two servos to a separate 9 volt battery. Is that too much power to them?

9V batteries are for smoke alarms, not for motors or servos. The voltage they supply is too high, but those batteries probably cannot supply enough current to do any damage to a servo.

Use a decent power supply, as described in reply #1.

I am using micro servos so it says that they use between 4-10 volts. I am going to try using 4 AA batteries and I hope that will work. I am trying to make a hat that has the display on the front and having the button to control the servos which will move a mask over my face. It is for Mardi Gras.

Even with using 4 AA batteries the micro servos still do not spin when I push the button. Should I also power the button using the 4 AA, the 3.3 volt pin, or the 5 volt pin. I have it on the 3.3 volt pin now.
Thank you

Why have you not posted your wiring diagram?

I am making one I am almost done.

Here is the picture of the wiring diagram.

The pullup resistor for the button should either be connected to 5V or removed completely, and the button pin declared INPUT_PULLUP.

Other than that, I don't see anything obviously wrong with the diagram, however you forgot to tell us what servos you are using. Post a link to the product page. A 4xAA battery pack may not supply enough current to run the bigger servos.

Start over and get each part of the project working separately. Learn to read one button, move one servo and output to the display. When all bits are working correctly, put what you have learned into the final product.

Here is the link to the servos that I got. Servos
Thank you for your help.

Those servos should work with 4xAA batteries. Get just one working with the sweep example as a test.

However, DO NOT obey the terrible suggestion to power the servo using the 5V Arduino output. The example was written by someone who does not understand electronics.

I have set up the two servo motors with the button and it works fine. I also can control the two led matrixes on its own. Once I combined the two codes and try to run both at the same time. The Led Matrixes still run fine but the servos are not very responsive to the button.
Here is the code I used for the servos and button

 #include <Servo.h>;

 // pushbutton pin
 const int buttonPin = 8;

 // servo pin
 const int servoPin = 3;
 Servo servo;

 // servo pin
 const int servoPin2 = 9;
 Servo servo2;

//create a variable to store a counter and set it to 0
int counter = 0;
void setup()
{
  servo.attach (servoPin);
  servo2.attach (servoPin2);

  // Set up the pushbutton pins to be an input:
  pinMode(buttonPin, INPUT);
}

void loop()
{
 // local variable to hold the pushbutton states
  int buttonState;

  //read the digital state of buttonPin with digitalRead() function and store the           //value in buttonState variable
  buttonState = digitalRead(buttonPin);

  //if the button is pressed increment counter and wait a tiny bit to give us some          //time to release the button
  if (buttonState == LOW) // light the LED
  {
    counter++;
    delay(500);
  }

  if(counter == 0)
    servo.write (0);  // zero degrees
  else if(counter == 1)
    servo.write(90);
  //else reset the counter to 0 which resets thr servo to 0 degrees
  else
   counter = 0;

    if(counter == 0)
    servo2.write (180);  // zero degrees
  else if(counter == 1)
    servo2.write(90);
  //else reset the counter to 0 which resets thr servo to 0 degrees
  else
   counter = 0;
}

the servos are not very responsive to the button.

Get rid of the delay() statements.

Study the blink without delay example to learn how.

I had the delay because if I held down the button the one servo would just shake back and forth. I took that out but the servos are still not responding to the button. Do you think it would be easier for me to just get another Arduino and do the servos separately from the Led matrixes.

Probably. You aren't posting enough information for us to solve the problem.

If keeping the delay makes the servos move, and removing it makes them stop, then maybe the delay(s) are the problem. Have you tried changing them or checking your if-then statements?
