i have a problem uploading even simple code to my arduino uno and i get this message :

- You may need to burn the bootloader again.

- Have you uploaded code to this Arduino before ?

- What board is the IDE set to ?

- is the correct port selected in Tools -\> Port?
- is the correct driver installed (e.g. CH340 for a clone board)? (Can you show a screenshot of the COM ports in Device Manager)
- have you tried another USB cable? (Ok, you said that the loopback test seems to work so theoretically its OK, but just to be sure and rule it out.)
- is the port opened by something else, e.g. another IDE instance or another serial terminal program?

When you press and release the reset button on the Uno, do you get a few (I think 3) quick flashes of the L-LED?

No, the reset button does nothing to my arduino led

In that case I think that either the boot loader is corrupt (not very likely) or that the 328P processor is faulty (more likely).

You can also run the loop back test ([Loop-Back Test Instructions](https://forum.arduino.cc/t/loop-back-test-instructions/73046)). That will test the 16U2 serial-to-usb converter on your board.

If the loop back test also fails you have somehow done serious damage to the board, e.g. connected 12V to the 5V pin.

If the loop back test passes, you can try to burn the bootloader as mentioned by LarryD (post #2, instructions on the web) or replace the 328P (you can buy them with the bootloader pre-programmed).

In post #8 I indicated that you can try to burn the boot loader or replace the 328P (if it's in a DIL socket).
