I guess it was nice while it lasted

No more packages from China for US!

Presumably because there is not enough "infrastructure" to implement this:

(Since then, rescinded! For now. USPS lifts suspension of parcels from Hong Kong and China | AP News )

if it means Shein will pollute the world a bit less for some time, that's a good side effect ...

In the European Union, VAT applies from the first euro of value on goods imported from outside the EU. Platforms like AliExpress or Amazon had to implement a system where they collect VAT at the point of sale, so the buyer doesn’t have to pay it separately upon delivery, simplifying tax collection.

Just as long as we don't have to go back to the bad old days when getting a parcel from another country meant making a trip to the next town to visit the Customs office (because your town was too small to have one) and not having any idea how much you were going to get dinged for until after you'd stood in line for half an hour.

Yes the do charge VAT at point of sale.

I wonder how much of the collected VAT actually gets paid to the respective Governments.

Same in Australia. 10% GST. Goods and Services Tax.

Tom.... :+1: :coffee: :australia:
