I have been seeing ESP32 NAS

Hello, I have been seeing around online ESP32 NAS. I myself run a few NAS and Jbod systems. I was curious about something being that it will be low power and low speed being maybe USB 1.1 or 2.0 speeds.

How fast can you really transfer files using an arduino? Even if you have the fastes Arduino compatible microcontroller there are a lot of limitiations on file transfer to an SD card or Flash drive.

also I see the advantage of making one being that it can be portable battery operated and on wifi.

Nothing transfers data instantaneously. Fast, slow, etc is a subjective decision. The transfer will take time, will it do that in your time constraint, that is your decision. Years ago a post would take weeks to go from one country to another. Now the post can be done in a few milliseconds via email. It boils down to the time allocated vs the amount of data to be processed and how fast it can be processed.

Hello gilshultz, Thank you for that information. I understand it takes time no matter what you transfer either being a 1k file or 1GB file. I was just curious that’s all.

I am glad that helped. I have used several NAS (Network Area Storage) systems and no two are the same but they mainly used Linux as the OS (Operating System).

My NAS is fast but runs hot. I'd actually prefer one that was slower and less power hungry.

Hello all thank you for the update. I put this project on hold until I finish this other one first. I will post an update in a few days.
