I need help to configure the digital gates

I want to used the digital gates 0 and 1.

This gates normally is used for serial comunication (TX - RX).

I have used the command “ pinMode( 0, INPUT)” and “ pinMode( 1, INPUT)”, but after in this gates I have always one tension ( 4,9 V ).

My question is : Is possible to used these digital gates ( gate 0 and gate 1 ) and what mode is necessary to setting arduino for to used these gates ?

Thanks for help me :)

They're "pins", not "gates".

Have you disconnected these pins from the FTDI chip?

but after in this gates I have always one tension ( 4,9 V ).

yes that will be what happens, the input floats. To use the pins as an output use:- pinMode( 2, OUTPUT); in the setup();

and then do digitalWrite(2,LOW); to put a low voltage on the pin and digitalWrite(2,HIGH); to put a high voltage on the pin

As mentioned do not use pins 0 and 1 until you know what you are doing.

Thanks for help Groove and Grumpy_Mike

No, for the moment I not disconnected these pins from the FTDI chip.

what mode is necessary to disconnected these pins from the FTDI chip?

This operation is software o hardware ? :)

Hardware - I think there's a series resistor to be removed. Which board are you using?

Hardware - I think there’s a series resistor to be removed.

I thought you could do a Serial.end(), then use the pins?

?

:-?

I using the Arduino 2009, after that you give me this information, I gone to see the elettric schematic.

I see is necesary to remove R8 and R9 (1k ohm) but for the moment, I don't want to make hardware changes at Arduino

Thanks very much Groove

Thanks cr0sh

Now I want to try the command that you told at me ;D

I tried the command serial.end() but it don't work :'(

I think the only solution for to use the Pin 0 and 1 is to remove the R8 and R9 ;)

What do you need all the pins for?

Maybe a shift register or port expander is what you need to give you more pins?

Mowcius

Hi Mowcius,

I want to make one toy for soft air.

For the moment, I used one LCD and this to use 6 Digital Pin.

I want to use one keyboard at 16 keys and this to use 8 Digital Pin.

I don't know if is possible to use one keyboard with 4 digital Pin and 4 analogic Pin.

I ask any person if to know one exemple for keyboard ?? :D

So you don't need to use pins 0 and 1.

Use shift registers to scan your keyboard. See:- http://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ShiftOut
