How much of your scatch did you write? if you can interface a RTC to a LCD, why are you unable to add a user interface? If someone else wrote the RTC code, and display code, and someone writes the interface code, what have you learned? Instead of trying to make a watch, why not try to move a cursor across an LCD with the push of a button? Once you can do that, you might be able to create the whole interface.
