No. It has always worked as advertised to me. Perhaps you should post your problem (with sufficient explanation/background) in the appropriate sub-forum. Hopefully one of our gurus will help you there.

The Nintendo Wii uses I2C for its controllers. The Lego Mindstorms system uses I2C for its components. They are both major, massively selling systems.

So, no. I2C is OK. Your implementation however, might not be.
