DO the sabertooth/mpu use interrupts?
Can be disruptive.
Does the I2C have right pull up resistors? 4K7 or smaller.
Do you have a logic analyzer to check the I2C communication when it fails?
Are the GNDs connected of the 24V and the Arduino power?
