I2C to UART converter for GPS

Hi All,

I'd like to use i2c to read gps data. I've found this https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9981 breakout board. Do you think guys it would work with a serial GPS? I'd use it to speed up things... You know reading serial GPS data can take up a huge amount of time. (ms)

Thanks,

Zsolt

Yes the should work.

Huh how?

Thanks for the answer. While I'm reading the GPS data, I can't do anything else. As I'm using interrupt for the exact timing it would be better to access the GPS data by i2c. I log gps data with other data in every second.

Maybe you can provide a link to the GPS module you're using? Some modules (as some u-blox ones) have the ability to be accessed by I2C. BTW: just inserting a conversion module doesn't make the communication faster.
