For reference, here is the issue the Arduino IDE developers are using to track the need for Serial Monitor to be a separate window:
opened 07:48PM - 29 Mar 21 UTC
type: enhancement
topic: code
topic: serial monitor
### Describe the request
Allow **Serial Monitor** to be placed in a dedicated… window separate from the primary Arduino IDE window.
🙂 It will be possible for the user to control the display location of the Serial Monitor separately from the primary Arduino IDE window according to their needs and preferences.
🙂 This will provide feature parity with the Arduino IDE 1.x Serial Monitor.
### Describe the current behavior
Serial Monitor is a view in the bottom panel of the primary Arduino IDE window.
🙁 It is not possible to move Serial Monitor to a separate screen in order to dedicate all space on the primary screen to the Arduino IDE editor.
### Arduino IDE version
#### Original report
2.0.0-beta.4
#### Last verified with
2.0.1-snapshot-32d904c
### Operating system
All
### Operating system version
Any
### Additional context
The requested "tear off" capability would probably make sense for other windows ("**Output**" view) too.
<a name="workaround"></a>
#### Workaround
1. Select **File > New Sketch** from the Arduino IDE menus.
A new Arduino IDE window will open.
1. Select **Tools > Serial Monitor** from the Arduino IDE menus.
The "**Serial Monitor**" view will open in the bottom panel of the Arduino IDE window.
1. Hover the mouse pointer over the top border of the bottom panel.
The mouse pointer will change into a resize icon.
1. Click and drag the border up until it reaches its maximum height.
You can now use that Arduino IDE window solely for Serial Monitor, switching back to the other Arduino IDE window to do sketch editing, compile, upload, etc. operations just as you would do with the Arduino IDE 1.x Serial Monitor.

Work is in progress now to add the missing baud rates:

opened 10:23AM - 01 Dec 22 UTC
This is a tentative fix to add missing baud rates. It is known that there may be… some issues on some OS, so testing is required to see if everything is working as expected.
The [Arduino IDE 1.8.x](https://github.com/arduino/Arduino/blob/57a931c9c4c084057417837239ad8136f8a7b1aa/app/src/processing/app/AbstractMonitor.java#L24) has the following baud rates in the selector:
```java
protected String[] serialRateStrings = {
"300", "1200", "2400", "4800", "9600",
"19200", "38400", "57600", "74880",
"115200", "230400", "250000", "500000",
"1000000", "2000000"};
```
I've added the missing `74880`, `250000`, and also `31250` (that is not available in the Arduino IDE 1.8.x).
Are you aware that Arduino IDE 2.x comes with multiple pre-installed themes you can pick from?
Arduino IDE 1.x didn't have a GUI for customizing the theme either. In fact, I can't think of a single application that does. Even Windows hasn't provided such a feature for quite some years now.
Perhaps you would like to contribute the code changes required to add the feature you miss to this free open source software project?
As for customizing the Arduino IDE theme, you might be interested in this information a forum member shared, which does include an option for GUI-based theme customization:
Note that support for custom themes was lost in the Arduino IDE 2.0.3 release , but it has already been fixed in the nightly build .
