I am returning to Arduino after a break of a few years and naturally downloaded the latest IDE. However upon install it tries to update the libraries and has been 'updating' Firmata for the past 20 minutes. I don't need or particularly want "firmata" : the majority of my existing projects over the past fifteen or so years run 'on board' and don't need fancy interfaces to 'computers'. However 'Firmata' appears to be embedded and is preventing me from proceeding. Any hints? ( Win 10 64bit boards ranging from Deceimila to Mega)
Did you have IDE 1.x installed on the same system in the past? It's the only reason that I can think of why it might want to update that library.
If so, close the IDE, navigate to the libraries directory and delete the firmata directory (make backup first).
Yes, I did have 1.89 but I uninstalled it ( I found the installer exe in an archive drive) when I converted to win 10. As you say, maybe something got left behind..... "many are the wonders of microsoft". Thanks for the tip. it appears OK now.
It's not Microsoft in this case.
Compare it with MS Word that you uninstall. You would not be amused if it also uninstalled (read: delete) all your documents ![]()
Glad that it's sorted ![]()
