Hi.
I am running Windows 7 and been using my Duemilanove and UNO for some time with version 1.0.5 and had no problems. A few days ago I downloaded the Onewire library and a temperature control library for the DS18B20. For some reason when I want to open the IDE it takes in excess of 50 seconds before a small window opens and shows the words "an error occurred while starting the application". If I click the OK button on this window it disappears and then it takes another 20 seconds for the sketch window to appear. If I remove the two libraries from my PC the IDE opens in about 7 seconds. I have uploaded the libraries 4 times and each time they are on the PC the IDE has this problem. I have tried a different temperature library and still have the problem. I don't have any other devices attached to the PC. If anyone can help resolve this problem it would be a great help.
What folder are you running the arduino from?
Not sure if it will help but you can try exit deleting the preferences.txt file.
Hello GregM.
I used to have the IDE and everything else in a file in my Documents folder. Due to this problem that I have encountered I have left the new downloads, IDE and the libraries, in the Download folder to see if that made any difference but it doesn't.
Found the culprit. Something bad in one of the libraries that I downloaded, the Dallas Temp Control library. Sorry but I can't remember which site I got it from. It produced a series of 25 folders consisting of 0 bytes, size on disk 0, according to the Properties window.. Some of the folders contained as many as 64 sub folders. These folders could not be deleted ( they disappear after a delete but come back once the folder that they are in is exited) and the warning popup window stated that the file name was too long. I tried Renaming them, deleting them one by one, deleting them in Safe Mode, un tick Read Only box but nothing worked. Had to use Unblocker to get rid of them.
