IDE.2.3.3 & Windows 11 Pro.
In the last few days I have had the internet fail after several faults with a new Fibre network in my area.
When this happens the IDE immediately says that the Cloud has disconnected and my COMx connection has been lost.
I am not using the Cloud but I had to stop using the IDE because of the lost connection to my project.
Is this deliberate or do I have a faulty IDE?
That isn't quite what the notification says. When Arduino IDE can't access the Internet, it displays the following notification:
Connection lost. Cloud sketch actions and updates won't be available.
When Arduino IDE can't access the Internet, the features that rely on access to the Internet won't work:
But, after the first run of a fresh installation (when it downloads some additional components from the Internet), all the core functionality of Arduino IDE should work just fine even without Internet access.
This definitely should not be caused by lack of access to the Internet.
Please provide a detailed description of what you mean by "COMx connection has been lost". Include the full and exact text of any error or warning messages you saw associated with the problem.
I've just tested this with IDE 2.3.3 and a Nano board spitting out millis() every second. Serial monitor does not show any problems after I disconnected from the internet and keeps on getting / displaying the data.
Please add the board that you're using to the details that @ptillisch asked for. If your sketch uses internet connectivity, please post the sketch as there might be an issue in the sketch or libraries used by the sketch.
Newbie Problem!!
Because the colour of the COM line changed from green to yellow I thought it was disconnected. A further test has shown that the COM is not disconnected.
It might have helped if only the word "Offline" had its background changed and the COM part left green.
