Idea For Gift For Teenager

Hello! I am looking for a gift for my 16 year old son & an adult friend who knows him suggested Arduino. He just took JAVA, loves to build anything, takes engineering-type classes in high school and has an interest in electrical & mechanical engineering.

I'm looking at the kits offered here and wondering if there is any benefit to the Basic Kit or if the Hummingbird Kit would be better, and if there are any additional components that I should purchase at the same time. He's not used Arduino before but he picks up on this stuff very quickly. Any advice is appreciated!

Thank you!

Go to the "BUY" tab above. Gets you to the 'official' Arduino store (supportd the foundation).

Starter Kit(s)

Then go to Books (in the store) and get a copy of 'Getting Started with Arduinos'.

Load the IDE (from the Software Tab above) and have him run through the examples.
