I intend to build a system that moves multiple cameras along two rails. THe cameras will be attached to a single spindle moving up and down the rail. Bicycle chains are ideal but are expensive due to the long distance. Any alternatives, forums for such a system.

Are you asking for suggestions for the rail itself? I don't understand how chains come into that question. What dimensions and physical properties do the rails need? Do they need to be flexible/break into sections for transport and so on? If there are two of them, do they need to be spaced correctly from each other and how will you achieve that? Do they need to provide support for any drive mechanisms or is drive handled separately?
What does this have to do with Arduino?
