ILI9488 strange problem

I have the ILI9488 TFT touch display and I'm using the TFT_eSPI library.

  1. When I connect only the touch, it works.
  2. When I connect only the TFT, it works.
  3. When I connect both, the touch works but the TFT doesn't work. The TFT SDO pin is left unconnected.
    (Warning: Do not connect the ILI9488 display SDO to MISO if other devices share the SPI bus (TFT SDO does NOT tristate when CS is high)).
  4. When I connect the TFT SDO pin to MISO together with the touch DO, the TFT works but the touch doesn't work.
  5. If I disconnect the TFT SDO pin from MISO, the touch starts working, but the display stops working.

Any ideas?

It seems that connecting the TFT SDO pin to VCC helps. WHY?
