Impossible to upload a program

Hi everybody
I use a Diecimila. It uses to work quite well, but today something happened : the activity led now never stops blinking very fast (as it does when uploading code), and I can not upload anything new.
The message then is : avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00
The reset button does nothing good, even if I press it for fifteen seconds or more.
Any idea ?

Thank you. But I guess I must use some current while reseting ? I actualy never use any other current than the USB, so I must find something to plug in the board...

Hmmm, I found a way to power my card without the USB, but still, I cannot reset, or if I can, reseting doesn't help. Of course, I closed Arduino, and even restarted the whole computer, but this didn't help. I really don't understand, it seems my card is dead.

Thanks, it's really kind of you, but I guess I'll go buying a new card (of a younger generation - can't be bad) tomorrow, as I'm in a real hurry on my project. I'm in Paris, and postal sendings betweet France and your island can be incredibely slow, for some reason. I'm just upset to be unable to understand what happened, and if it could be my fault. I've been using my card for years, now, without any problem.

If I understand spycatcher2k he means to hold reset down while you are plugging in the USB and not release it until the moment when the sketch uploads. You might need a second pair of hands to achieve that.

You might want to try the Loop-Back Test (instructions stickied at the start of this forum section).

Nick, thank you so much, the three hands workaround was the good one ! I had to try it three times before I found the exact moment when to release the button, and I'll never could have found it without your advice.
I lock this topic so people whose board suffers of the same disease will see there is a solution. Thank you very much again.
