I cant cancel the project because i will lack in time but i will put it in my conclusion and findings that capacitive sensing is not a good medium for automatic brakes. A theremin is a musical instrument, based on capacitive sensing. Did you even try to just put "theremin" in Google?
Theremins mostly seem to get used making spooky sci-fi sound/music.
There was one in the Radio Shack 80-in-1 projects kit.
Theremin is very like a metal detector, another project in that kit.
