Individual LED control with PWM IC

Hello, I am looking for an easy-to-use IC, preferably DIP version, which would allow me to control brightness of each connected LED individually. Daisy-chain ability would be nice as well. Something like MAX7313 would be ideal, unfortunately that IC is pretty expensive and it also comes SMD only.

You might also consider plain ol' shift registers and using ShiftPWM.
