Inductive proximity sensor Heschen lj12a3-4-z/dx 2-wire NC

Hi, I want to use this sensor for a school project. I'm pretty new to circuits and wiring or electronics in general, so I'm a little confused on how to wire this up to my Arduino UNO.

I'm using a 12v battery pack to supply power to the circuit (8 AA 1.5v batteries).
There are a few diagrams online (on this site too), I have tried wiring my circuit like those but I can't get it to work.

Any help would be amazing since I've been stuck on this for a while, thanks in advance.

Information on 2-wire & 3-wire proximity sensors

How about a link to the data sheet on you sensor, so we can learn what you already know?

Oh, I totally forgot about that. I'm sorry there should be a link to one now.

Ok, you have two wire, Normally closed device. How exactly did you wire it to the Arduino and still supply more than 6 volts to the device?
