input of button press output to usb

brief overview: I have a heat press that activates when two buttons are pressed. My goal is to connect those two buttons to Arduino. When those buttons are simultaneously pressed, I would like an output be sent through the USB to a nearby computer. Output could be as simple as a keystroke.

My only concern is that according to the manufacturer of the press, the voltage at the button is 12 volts. Am i barking up the completely wrong tree with using Arduino? Or, do i just need to bring the voltage down?

I'm new to using Arduino, although i have watched from a far and this seemed like the perfect project to start learning. Thanks for your help.

You could use a voltage divider (google is your friend) to drop that 12V to 5V. Or use an optoisolator to completely isolate the Arduino and the press.
