Installed IDE 2.0 with Ubuntu Synaptic Package Manager but not found in terminal mode startup

I decided to upgrade IDE to 2.0 from 1.8.19 through Ubuntu's Synaptic Package Manager.
The install was uneventful and indicated the new release was now resident. When running the terminal command:
./arduino-ide
from my user directory I get:

ed@ed-G41MT-S2PT:~$ ./arduino-ide
bash: ./arduino-ide: No such file or directory

directory listing:

ed@ed-G41MT-S2PT:~$ dir -a
.
..
Arduino
.arduino15
Backup\ dates\ &\ locations
.bash_history
.bash_logout
.bashrc
.cache
.config

.gnome

Do I need to uninstall 2.0 and download the IDE 2.0 off the arduino.cc site and extract/install not using synaptic package manager? It has been a reliable utility to date.

Running Linux version: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Does it tell you the exact version of the Arduino IDE that was installed? I see that Synaptic is a GUI for the APT package manager, and APT provides an extremely outdated version of the Arduino IDE, confusingly versioned something like: 2:1.0.5+dsfg2. This cases people to think it is a 2.x version of the Arduino IDE, but really it is 1.0.5, which was released in 2013 and is missing 8.5 years worth of active development.

This command runs an executable named arduino-ide that is located in the current directory.

There is no executable of that name in your current directory, so the error is normal and expected. When you install an application via a package manager, it is generally put in a location that is in your PATH environment variable, after which you can run it with the executable name along (e.g., arduino-ide).

I strongly recommend using the official versions of the Arduino IDE downloaded from here:

The package manager versions are often outdated. These packages are created and maintained by 3rd parties who sometimes make unspecified changes to the IDE which cause unique bugs. Most of the helpers here on the forum are using the official version of the IDE, so we are not as easily able to provide support for bugs that are exclusive to non-standard 3rd party variants of the IDE.

Thank you for the sage advice! I will get rid of the supposed 2.0 install thru Synaptic. And only source Arduino.cc for installs going forward.

Again, many thanks...
