Installer keeps saying 1.8.1 needs to be uninstalled

On Windows 7 I updated to 1.8.1. I am still having problem so wanted to revert to 1.6.11.

When it says 1.8.1 must be unistalled I click OK and nothing happens.

I have deleted the program files (x86) arduino directory but the installer for 1.6.11 still will not proceed

Any clues?

Not exactly the answer you're looking for but you can get around the problem by using the "Windows" download link: https://www.arduino.cc/download_handler.php?f=/arduino-1.6.11-windows.zip instead of the "Windows Installer" link. That will allow you to have multiple versions of the Arduino IDE installed at the same time.

Thanks for the hint. I have discovered that using the Windows program and features to remove Arduino, even though there is nothing there to unistall, you can remove it from the installed list to enable the installer to work. :)

FULL clean up instructions attached JIC you want them.
