Installing Bootload

I am having the same problem. I am trying to burn a bootloader onto an ATmel 328P, following this tutorial:

I have the external 16MHz and 2pf caps, and I have double/triple checked wiring.
I am using MacOS 10.14.3. and a brand new UNO which came loaded with the Blink sketch, so it's safe to say that it's good (?). What am I missing here?

This is the verbose message:

No, you are not. The problems are not even similar.

Stop being a selfish oik. Do not hijack.

The protocol error indicates either that you forgot to load Arduino as ISP sketch onto the Uno, or that you didn't disable autoreset on the Uno (whether this needs to be done depends on the version of Arduino, recent versions require it in almost all cases; this change was rolled back months ago, but there has been no release since then).

After loading Arduino as ISP onto the Uno, put a 10uF cap between reset and ground (exact value doesn't matter, anything 4.7uF or larger will work). Remove this cap before attempting to upload a different sketch to the Uno (as it will prevent uploading a new sketch).
