Installing esptool.

Recently and for the first time I purchased a couple ESP32's. Right away I found that I could successfully run a sketch on my Win10 laptop (Lenovo Yoga) without any changes to the environment, but the sketch just produces and endless rst loop on my desktop (where I prefer to work) .
I tried all the typical solutions I found with no joy. Then I made things worse by copying the 'preferences' txt file from my laptop to my desktop. I thought I had made a backup of the original desktop 'preferences' txt file but I must have fat-fingered that attempt.
Now, on my desktop all I get is 'esptool does not exist'.
I have tried to install it but am confused by what I have found and have not been successful.

As you have almost certainly determined at this point that I am something of a light-weight about this kind of stuff. That said, I played around with a a few things (not really sure of just what I was doing) while I was waiting for a response (BTW… Thank you!). After I read your reply I went back and recompiled to get the complete error message and… Waa-Laa, for reasons unkown to me, it compiled and executed just find (for the first time).
I guess I would rather be lucky than good… at least this time.

I was wrong. All my testing up until I started this thread was with the MELIFE unit. Today I received 2 of the HiLetgo units.
Below is the error message I get on my desktop with an
MELIFE ESP32 ESP-32S.
When I connect to a
HiLetgo ESP32 OLED WiFi Kit ESP-32 0.96 Inch Blue OLED Display
it works just fine.
So the HiLetgo works on both my laptop and desktop but the MELIFE only works on the laptop. Weird. Do you suppose there is something faulty with the MELIFE?
