Integrating Server Sketch and Client Sketch

I am trying to make a sketch with a client and a server running at the same time. The client part of the sketch will poll a smart citizen kit for outside weather conditions. The server part of the sketch will listen for commands sent to its IP to turn up or down the temperature setting. I have the two sketches running separately and am looking to integrate them.
I show relevant pieces of the client and server programs below. There seems to be some overlaps which may make it difficult to use both in the same sketch. Can you look at the two pieces of code below and let me know about these questions?

  1. The client sketch defines a server variable (the website address) and the server sketch listens for a client (something connecting to its IP). So both the server and client sketches have server and client objects (or variables). Is this possible to have? Any tips for dealing with that? Will just changing the conflicting "client" and "server" variable names be enough?

  2. The client sketch checks for a connection on port 80 to see if connected to the server. The server sketch opens a server object on port 80. What other port numbers would be OK?

The Client Sketch uses:

char server[] = "api.smartcitizen.me";
WiFiClient client;

if (client.connect(server, 80)) {      /*connected to server */
        client.println("Host: api.smartcitizen.me");
        client.println("Connection: close");

while (client.available()) {
    char c = client.read();    }
  client.stop();

The Server Sketch uses:

    WiFiServer server(80);
    server.begin();

    WiFiClient client = server.available();
        while (client.connected()) {
             if (client.available()) {
                 char c = client.read();

    client.stop(); // close the connection:

The Ethernet classes support multiple connections - server and client. The WiFi classes do not.
