Interested in purchasing LED display..

Hello Everyone! I have little to no electronic experience and am interested in purchasing an led display. What I'm looking for is a display made up of 4 8x8 panels that can scroll words across from right to left. I am willing to pay someone around $100 to do this. (not including what it would cost them to ship it to me) If this sounds like an unrealistic price just let me know and I'll forget about it, but if anyone here is interested in doing this for me just let me know what you can do and we can talk about it more.

-Thanks

Can scroll words (hardware) or it does scroll words (hardware + software)?

Do you want to program it yourself?

Where do you want the text (words) to come from?

I was thinking all software and hardware. I could buy the hardware to do it on ebay, I just have no idea how to get it working is the problem. If someone could rig it up and sort of give me instructions on how i would go and change what it said that would be awesome, If not though I would be willing to settle for one that scrolled the same few phrases over and over.

I'm kind of throwing Paul B. a bone, but I like his products.
Only problem is that you'll need to spend that $80 for the microcontroller board + the 4 8x8 LED boards as well as a power supply and 64*4 (256) LEDs.

$12.80 for 256 Red LEDs at elexp.com and they have a minimum order of $20, so you might as well get a power supply there too. I didn't see a suitable one myself, but I didn't look too hard.

It'll be a fun project though, shouldnt take more than a day. Usable code is available on his website.

Hi,

I've got some 8x8 displays that I picked up surplus, so I can probably do the job for you within your budget.

There are a few important details missing from your description, though. Most notably, how big do you want the display to be? Are you expecting it to be in a nice enclosure at that price, or do you just want the bare electronics?

Do you want it to be like a "terminal", where some other computer continuously sends it data to be scrolled? Or do you want to load it up with a message, and have that displayed continuously?

$8 (plus an arduino, of course); write code based on http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1225239439/ (which is for the same driver chip, but in a slightly different geometry.)

I'm not sure what the standard sizes are for 8x8 displays but I was thinking no bigger than 3" squares for each 8x8 panel. Preferably about 2" squares, so about 2" tall by 8" wide.

Here is something to show the jist of what im looking for size wise. If all four of those pieces were together and not seperated in the middle. That would be about the size I want. Preferably a little bit smaller than that actually.

I am looking to do all of the enclosure work myself, so just the bare electronics.

I was wanting to load it up with one or two messages at a time, not set it up to have a computer constantly hooked to it.
