interfacing a barcode scanner with arduino

That brochure says:-

Multiple interfaces: RS232, USB, KBW (keyboard wedge), Wand, IBM 468X/9X, Synapse and Undecoded in one scanner

I only know what the first two are. USB is no good for you as you would need a USB Host shield and learn to write a driver for it. The RS232 looks promising, you would need an RS323 to TTL converter circuit board or a chip to do the conversion. Their are lots of chips that would do this like the MAX232.

However, you would then need the data manual that tells you what commands you have to give it and in what format it will reply in. You need to know if encrypted bar codes are signaled up as being something different from normal bar codes or your project will be a none starter.
