Interfacing I3C

Hi

I have a few lipo batteries that don't include the balance connector that balance charges the 3 cells. I guess they use I3C as there is a data pin between the battery terminals and the battery includes a circuit inside that senses the cells and communicates with the matched charger.

Is there any way I can read data from that pin (i.e. between that pin and negative=ground terminal)?

Probably, but without knowing what you have, the odds of me guessing correctly are about as likely as my two neighbors, Slim and None. Can you post links to the datasheets for the parts involved?

Lipos used in rc for example, will have a balance plug which connects to each cell and the negative. So 4 cables for 3 cell.
This cable connects to a balance type charger that can isolate any cell in turn during either charge or discharge.

Rarely if ever, do these above have any bms pcb.
Nothing to do with data.

If you have other types, show a link to the specs.

I3C uses two signal lines just like I2C, so it's something else, maybe a thermistor output.

Unfortunately I have no datasheet. I do have other lipos that include the balance connector with n+1 wires where n=number of cells so the charger reads the voltage of each cell.

But Spektrum now sells "Smart G2" batteries that don't have that connector, instead there is a pin located between the batt terminals and you guess there is a circuit inside the battery. The electronics and protocol uses that pin to sample the cells' voltage.

The reason why I ask for help is that I brought the batteries from a trip and once at home when I opened the boxes I found that I can't use my chargers with these ones. Chargers are expensive and hard to find here.

Why not?

Because they need the balance connector to measure each cell voltage.

I have a charger that has connections for balancing but it will also charge a battery if the balance input is not connected.
