Well, everybody's gotta start somewhere. 
I've been looking for my next project for after the Tesla Coil and a home water usage meter that doesn't require hacking into plumbing sounds like a good challenge.
ETA: and now that I think about it, it was a BASIC Stamp, not a PIC.
