Invisible presence sensor?

Hello,
I'm thinking about a new project with LCD display.
One of the most important features for me, is turn off display when no one is near around. At same time, I want to make this device to look professional as much as possible. So my question: can anyone recommend a sensor (mmWave,...?) that works through the LCD display (or thin plastic frame around) and can detect the presence of people up to 1 meter in front of the display?

many IR sensors can detect motion through thin plastic or acrylic casings, as these materials are generally transparent to IR light. Ultrasonic sensors can also work through plastic, provided the case does not significantly absorb or distort the sound waves.
