iPad Application Approval

I just found the Arduino App in the store for the iPad serial interface. This gives me new hope.

I have been considering making a serial interface App. I was afraid Apple would just say "nein!".

Does anyone know the key criteria for getting a serial interface App approved?

The devices which will be communicated with have ID's and communications protocols.

Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

While not official policy, if the app allows people to bypass any Apple money making system then it will be refused.
That might also apply to their major partners.

In addition to being a developer, you must be invited to apple's hardware developer program (aka "Made for iPod/iPhone/iPad"). Otherwise, you won't get access to the hardware APIs nor will any apps using them get approved.

The common work-around is to develop hardware that uses the audio port instead of the dock connector.
